The Pixel 4a 5G and Pixel 5 are set to be announced by Google next week, at its event on September 30. And now we're starting to see what kind of colors Google is using for both the Pixel 4a 5G and Pixel 5 this year.

Google typically sticks with black and white, and then has an interesting color as a third option. Last year it was Oh So Orange, with the Pixel 3a it was Purplish and the Pixel 3 series was Not Pink.

This time around it looks like Google might be going with less colors, as it looks to possibly simplify the SKUs for both models.

Green and black Pixel 5 models

According to leaks coming out of Europe, it looks like the Pixel 5 is going to come in only two colors, either green or black.

Meanwhile, the Pixel 4a 5G will come in either white or black.

Both phones are coming with 128GB of storage, much like the Pixel 4a, so that's not a surprise at all. Though what might be a surprise is that there is only a 128GB model. No upgraded 256GB this time. Previously, Google had done 64GB and 128GB models.

The Pixel 4a 5G is expected to cost around €499 and the Pixel 5 will be around €626. Which is similar pricing to what we're expecting in the US. The Pixel 4a 5G is expected to be around $500 and the Pixel 5 to be around $700.

These leaks also tell us when to expect the Pixel 4a 5G and Pixel 5. Which is October 15. That's a little over two weeks after the announcement. And lines up with previous releases from Google, including the Pixel 4a.

Google is going back to the basics this year

With the Pixel, it really seems that Google is going back "to the basics" this year with its smartphones. Not that it's a bad thing, but compared to the competition, the Pixel 4a and 5 lineup this year looks somewhat boring. But they are also way cheaper than what Samsung, LG, Motorola and others are putting out.

Google is realizing that buyers don't want all of these gimmicks that they spend time and R&D on creating for their phones. They just want a phone that can last all day on a single charge, can take great pictures, and offers the best of Google. Which is what the Pixel 4a is, and we're hoping the Pixel 4a 5G and Pixel 5 will offer the same.
