The Samsung Galaxy S20 FE (Fan Edition) may still launch as the Galaxy S20 Lite after all. The device is long-rumored to arrive as a stripped-down Samsung flagship succeeding the Galaxy S10 Lite launched earlier this year. However, reports have suggested that it’ll carry a ‘Fan Edition’ name over the ‘Lite’ branding. But that may not be the case.
Support pages for the Gear 360 camera on Samsung’s US and Germany websites have the Galaxy S20 Lite listed as one of the unsupported devices, along with the Galaxy Z Flip. As disappointing this news may sound, it’s the ‘Lite’ branding that’s of more interest here.
At least one of the support pages was updated on the 27th of July this year. The fact that the Galaxy S20 Lite name continues to exist on the pages even after more than a month suggests it’s an intentional listing.
Interestingly, Samsung Bulgaria had recently listed the Galaxy S20 FE and S20 FE 5G on its official website. However, that listing has since been edited to remove the two names.
Are Galaxy S20 FE and S20 Lite the same phones?
A Lite branding falls in line with Samsung’s previous two affordable flagships – the Galaxy S10 Lite and the Galaxy Note 10 Lite. However, with Samsung’s own websites throwing contrasting hints, it’s unclear if the next phone in the series will carry a ‘Lite’ branding.
All the leaks and rumors about Samsung’s upcoming affordable flagship have pointed towards the Fan Edition (FE) moniker. There’s a good chance that the two devices are the same. But it’s still unclear what will be the marketing name for the phone.
Or who knows, the Galaxy S20 Lite is an altogether new phone apart from the Galaxy S20 FE. Or maybe the listing on Samsung‘s official websites is a typo and the company hasn’t looked back on it yet.
These are all speculations as of now, though. We’ll have to wait for an official confirmation for the same. Samsung is expected to announce its upcoming affordable Galaxy S20 flagship in October.
Galaxy S20 Fan Edition (S20 Lite?) specs
Going by the leaked specs of the Galaxy S20 FE, we’re looking at a phone featuring a 6.5-inch Super AMOLED punch-hole display. It’s a Full HD+ panel with HDR10+ support and a 120Hz refresh rate. Under the hood is an Exynos 990/Snapdragon 865 chipset, depending on the market.
A triple rear-camera setup, 4,500 mAh battery with 45W fast charging, IP68 water resistance rating, up to 8GB of RAM and 128GB of expandable storage, Android 10 with One UI 2.x, and an in-display fingerprint scanner complete the package.
The device will come in both 4G and 5G variants in six different color choices. A recent report suggested a retail price of CAD 1,148.65 (roughly $878) for the Galaxy S20 FE 5G. There’s no report yet on the pricing of the 4G model.
