There have been reports that Samsung was only going to give us two Galaxy Note 20 models this year. Which include the Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Note 20+. But it looks like a Galaxy Note 20 Ultra is on the way, as it just passed through the Bluetooth SIG.
Which means that we also know that it'll support Bluetooth 5.0. Not a big surprise at all, considering the Galaxy S20 series supports it.
This contradicts previous reports
It wasn't that long ago that we heard from a tipster in the supply chain that Samsung would only be offering two Galaxy Note 20 smartphones this year. And he specifically said that there would be no Galaxy Note 20 Ultra.
Now the former could still be true, if Samsung decided to drop the Galaxy Note 20 or Note 20+ and go with an Ultra model. Especially if two of the three are too close together in terms of specs and such. But we'll have to wait until August to find out for sure.
The reason why we bring this up, is because the model number that is associated with the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra here, SM-N986U had been associated with the Galaxy Note 20+. So it's possible that Samsung renamed the Plus to the Ultra.
It's all speculation until Samsung makes it official in August
Despite many smartphones being delayed, due to the pandemic this year, Samsung is still planning to launch the Galaxy Note 20 smartphones in August. In an online-only Unpacked event, which would be a first for Samsung. Since it normally has a huge Unpacked event in Brooklyn every year for the Galaxy Note series, with tens of thousands of people in attendance. But for obvious reasons, that won't be happening this year.
While the Galaxy Note 20 is still expected to be announced in August, it may actually come out a bit later than usual. It may not be available to purchase until sometime in September. Which most years, that would be a death sentence for Samsung. But because the iPhone is delayed until at least October, that isn't such a bad thing for Samsung.
It's possible that Samsung announces the Galaxy Note 20 and the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, or adds in a Galaxy Note 20+. Either way, it's going to be a big event, seeing as it is also expected to announce the Galaxy Fold 2 at this event as well. And we'll likely see a new tablet or two and some new wearables. As those are usually announced around this time.
