Images of the cancelled Google Pixel 4a XL have just surfaced. The phone actually appeared in both renders, and real-life images. Well, kind of. Renders did surface, but only the phone’s back cover has been shown in real-life images.
You will notice that the Google logo is not even imprinted on the backplate shown in real-life images below. This is the same back cover that is shown in the provided renders, though.
The Google Pixel 4a XL was supposed to launch alongside the Pixel 4a, but it got cancelled
The device was supposed to look the same as the Pixel 4a, but be bigger, and include an extra camera on the back. The Google Pixel 4a will include a single camera on the back, while the Pixel 4a XL was supposed to include two.
The phone was expected to be made out of polycarbonate (plastic), the same as its sibling. The same display camera hole in the top-left corner is included, as is a 3.5mm headphone jack at the top.
The power / lock button is placed on the right, along with the volume up and down buttons. That power / lock key is orange-colored on this white variant of the Pixel 4a XL.
Bezels are quite thin on the phone, and its rear camera setup is placed in the top-left corner. The fingerprint scanner is included here as well, and it’s located on the back.
Pigtou notes that the approximate size of the Pixel 4a XL was supposed to be 154.3 x 73.9 x 8.2mm. That actually makes it significantly smaller than the Pixel 3a XL, and quite compact for today’s standards
The source even provided a comparison between the Pixel 4a XL and Pixel 4a, as you can see in the picture provided below. The Pixel 4a XL would have been a bit larger than its sibling, of course.
The Pixel 4a launch has been delayed
The Google Pixel 4a’s launch has been delayed. The phone was supposed to arrive in May, but it seems like that launch has been moved to mid-July. The Pixel 4a XL has been cancelled, if reports are to be believed.
There is still a slim chance that Google may launch it, but don’t hold your breath. Pretty much every report said that it’s cancelled, and those did seem legit.
We really do not know why Google opted to cancel it. Perhaps the current global health crisis had something to do with it, or perhaps Google thought that the Pixel 4a XL was unnecessary next to its sibling.
Whatever the case may be, the Pixel 4a XL is cancelled, but the Pixel 4a is coming. The Pixel 5 and 5 XL are also expected to launch this year, but several months after the Pixel 4a.
