Google has made the decision to give away Stadia Pro for free to everyone for the next two months. If you’ve been wanting to give the service a try, haven’t been able to get your hands on a buddy pass, and simply didn’t want to invest the money in the Premiere bundle yet, now’s the time to check it out.
Upon signing up you’ll be give the opportunity to create your profile. This will include choosing a gamer tag, avatar etc. After all that, you’ll get access to the nine games that are included with Pro right now. All for free.
Free Stadia Pro access is rolling out over the next 48 hours
This whole process starts today. So many people will likely be able to sign up immediately. Google also says that this free access is rolling out over the next 48 hours.
Essentially Google is saying that not everyone will be able to sign up for free right this second. But, over the course of the next two days anyone that wants to use it should be able to create an account and get right to playing games.
There are a few caveats to keep in mind. This is only good for two free months of Stadia Pro. Once the two months end, you’ll have to pay the $9.99 monthly fee that it normally costs to keep the Pro service active.
Without Pro, you also can’t play any of the free games you’ve claimed. This bit works just like PS Plus. The games stay in your library, but you can only play them while you’re subscribed.
You also can’t play Stadia games through the Chromecast Ultra without the Stadia controller right now. So if you want to utilize this free offer completely free, you can only play games through Chrome or on your Android smartphone.
Lastly, this is still only available in the initial countries where Stadia was already available.
Current subscribers get the next two months free as well
Google hasn’t forgotten about the current subscriber base of the service. Those who already pay for a Pro subscription are included in the two free months as well.
If you’re already a Pro subscriber and were paying the monthly fee, your next two months are free of charge before things go back to normal.
On the same token, anyone that was a Pro subscriber and decided to cancel should have Pro available again. Or at the very least the option to re-enable it. Keep in mind that you will need to cancel again if you don’t want to keep it after the two free months is up.
If you’re interested in singing up, you can do so at the Stadia website. After that download the Stadia app and follow the in-app instructions. If you’re not able to sign up through the website, then you’ll probably just have to wait through the 48-hour rollout and keep checking.
