Nubia has announced a new gaming smartphone, the Nubia Play. This handset does not come with the latest and greatest chipset from Qualcomm, but it does include the company’s best mid-range offering.

The Nubia Play is fueled by the Snapdragon 765G 64-bit octa-core processor, and that shouldn’t be a problem. This chip keeps the Nubia Play’s price tag in check, and it’s more than powerful enough.

Still, many people will prefer flagship SoCs for a gaming smartphone, and that is understandable. Those of you who don’t have a problem with this, the Nubia Play is a compelling device.

The phone is made out of metal and glass, and it includes thin bezels above and below the display. Thanks to those bezels, the device does not have a display notch or hole. That’s a great thing considering this is a gaming phone.

The device includes a flat display, and its back side is curved. There are three cameras included on the back of the Nubia Play, and a single one placed on the front.

The Nubia Play includes a compelling liquid cooling system

This gaming smartphone includes the ICE2.5 rack-mounted liquid cooling system, with a 61mm large cooling tube, and various heat dissipation materials. Those materials include thermally conductive graphite, gel, copper foil, and so on.

The phone also has dual-touch game trigger keys, which is a nice touch considering this is a gaming phone. The phone’s specs are nothing to scoff at, quite the contrary.

The Nubia Play features a 6.65-inch fullHD+ (2340 x 1080) AMOLED display with 144Hz refresh rate. In addition to the Snapdragon 765G SoC, which supports 5G, the company included 6GB / 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 128GB / 256GB of UFS 2.1 storage.

Android 10 comes pre-installed on the device, along with NubiaUI 8.0. There are two SIM card slots included inside of this phone, and we’re looking at nano SIM card slots here.

A 5,100mAh battery is also included, and it supports 30W charging

A 5,100mAh battery is included on the inside of this smartphone, and it supports 30W fast charging. An in-display fingerprint scanner is also a part of the package, by the way.

A 48-megapixel main camera (Sony’s IMX582 sensor, 0.8um pixel size, f/1.75 aperture) is placed on the back. Alongside it, you’ll find an 8-megapixel ultra-wide camera (120-degree FoV), 2-megapixel macro camera, and a 2-megapixel depth camera (f/2.4 aperture).

A single 12-megapixel camera can be found on the front side of this phone. Bluetooth 5 is also a part of the package, and the same goes for an NFC chip, and a USB Type-C port.

The phone comes in Black, Blue, and White color options. The pricing for the Nubia Play starts at only CNY2,399 ($339) in China, and it remains to be seen if the phone will make its way to other markets.
