He shared this information via his official Twitter account. Mr. Weinbach also mentioned that the phone will be codenamed ‘Champ’, and “likely use” Ultra Thin Glass (UTG). UTG has been utilized by the Galaxy Z Flip as well, by the way.
The Galaxy Z Fold 2 coming in July with an under-display camera, and a 7.7-inch display
Another piece of information that the source mentioned is the phone’s display. The device will allegedly utilize a 7.7-inch Infinity Flex display.
If the Galaxy Z Fold 2 arrives in July, in other words, if this information ends up being true, its launch will come close to the Galaxy Note 20’s arrival.
Also, if this information is accurate, the Galaxy Z Fold 2 will arrive later than expected. More than one rumor suggested that the phone will arrive in Q2 2020. In fact, Mr. Weinbach himself said that will happen in Q2 2020.
It seems like the source received different information now, though. The previous info was shared at the end of last month, so only about two-three weeks ago.
The ‘Fold’ series becomes the ‘Z Fold’ series
That being said, you’ll notice that we constantly mentioned the ‘Galaxy Z Fold 2’, not the ‘Galaxy Fold 2’. Well, according to the source, the device will include that ‘Z’ branding like the Galaxy Z Flip.
We’re not sure why Samsung opted to make that move, but it’s quite probable it wants all of its foldable devices to include that ‘Z’ branding. That way, they’ll make easier to differentiate than the rest.
The Galaxy Z Fold 2 will be a direct successor to the Galaxy Fold that was announced last year. The Galaxy Fold was the company’s very first foldable smartphone, needless to say.
The Z Fold 2 will become Samsung’s flagship foldable smartphone for 2020. The Galaxy Z Flip is a compelling phone, but the Galaxy Z Fold 2 will almost certainly trump it.
The original Galaxy Fold included top-of-the-line specifications when it launched. The Galaxy Z Fold 2 will become a foldable tablet, not a foldable smartphone, like the Galaxy Z Flip.
The Galaxy Z Fold 2 design is still a mystery, but we’re guessing it will include thinner bezels than the Galaxy Fold. It will also not include that unseemly notch, and it will probably be made out of metal and glass.
