Max J. shared a concept image for illustration purpose on Twitter, with a caption “Charge like a pro”. Pretty much everyone assumed he’s talking about the OnePlus 8 Pro, and for a good reason.
The device that is in that illustration has a display camera hole in the top-left corner of the display. The OnePlus 8 series is expected to offer such a setup. The display on that device is curved, as will be on the OnePlus 8 series.
That’s not all, though, this concept handset also includes a very small protrusion on its right side, quite high up. That actually looks like an alert slider. All in all, it’s difficult not to think this tip is related to the OnePlus 8 Pro.
OnePlus has been refusing to include wireless charging for a long time, but that may change with the OnePlus 8 Pro
As many of you know, OnePlus has been refusing to include wireless charging in its phones for quite some time now, and it may now finally arrive. The company said that it will include wireless charging when it figures out how to implement it properly.
The company’s execs said that wireless charging has to main problems, it’s not fast enough, and it creates too much heat. Well, if the OnePlus 8 Pro ends up supporting it, OnePlus either solved both problems, or decided to include it regardless.
Pretty much every major flagship includes wireless charging these days. The pressure for OnePlus to do the same has been immense. The same can be said for water resistance, with proper certification. That is yet another feature that the OnePlus 8 is rumored to sport, but we’ll see.
It remains to be seen if this feature will be exclusive to the ‘Pro’ model
In any case, Max J. mentioned the ‘Pro’ model specifically in his tweet. The OnePlus 8 and 8 Lite are also rumored to launch, does that mean that those phones won’t offer wireless charging?
Well, it’s possible. The ‘Lite’ model almost certainly will not, if it ever becomes a reality. The OnePlus 8 should, as it will be quite similar in terms of specs to the ‘Pro’ model, but a bit smaller. We’ll see, though, it would be a shame if the ‘Pro’ model ends up supporting it, but not the regular variant.
If OnePlus decides to stick to its release cycle, the OnePlus 8 series will arrive in May. Having said that, the company may opt to announce both phones a bit sooner than that.
Both rumors and leaks for the OnePlus 8 series started earlier than usual. So, it’s possible that the device will arrive ahead of time, maybe in March or April, we’ll see.
The OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro are both expected to include 120Hz displays, though the 8 Pro may include a QHD+ panel, while the regular model is expected to be limited to a fullHD+ panel. Both phones will be fueled by the Snapdragon 865.
