A new Open Beta update for the OnePlus 7 series brings a highly-requested feature – one-handed mode. This feature is coming to both the OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro via Open Beta 8.
As most of you already know, Open Beta updates are available to everyone. You need to run beta software on your OnePlus handset in order to be eligible to receive such updates OTA.
The update is currently rolling out to everyone, but it may take a couple of days to reach your device. This is a staged update, as is every other OTA update that the company provides.
OnePlus confirmed a couple of months ago that one-handed mode is coming
OnePlus confirmed a couple of months back that it is working on a one-handed mode, and the OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro are the first to get it. Truth be said, this is just a beta build, but chances are they will be the first to get it in the stable build as well.
If everything goes according to plan, this feature could be introduced in the next stable build for the OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro. We are only guessing, of course, OnePlus did not confirm anything just yet.
What's interesting, though, is that information regarding this update is still not available on the company's official website. OnePlus usually provide such update info via its official forums, but this update is still not there.
The information regarding this update was provided by XDA Developers. To make things even more interesting, a one-handed mode is not mentioned in the changelog. XDA Developers did provide screenshots of the feature, though, so that you can see how it works.
This feature will appear in the 'Quick gestures' menu within the phone's Settings. Once you tap on that, you will be able to activate the feature. Once you do that, you'll be able to call upon the one-handed mode by pulling the screen down by swiping down on the left or right edge of the screen. In order to revert the process, simply swipe back up.
OnePlus' implementation is a bit different than Xiaomi's and Huawei's
OnePlus' one-handed mode implementation simply brings the screen down, and lets you use the bottom part of the display only. It does not move the whole display to the bottom-right or left corner, like Xiaomi's implementation does, for example… and Huawei's as well.
In addition to the one-handed mode, this update also brings some optimizations and fixes. Open Beta 8 for the OnePlus 7 series fixes mistouch issues when the phone is in the pocket. It also fixes the display issue on the uninstalling page.
This update will bring an Android security patch for December to your device, and it also brings various system stability improvements, and general bug fixes.
Some camera-related fixes are also listed. This update is supposed to fix the crash issue while opening the Camera app. It also fixes the black screen issue some users have been experiencing.
