It looks like Google will give out some freebies with its new phone, specifically a 90-day trial of Google One for the Pixel 4.
This is according to a new report from 9To5Google, who found evidence of the free trial inside of the latest Google One APK. If this leak turns out to be true, then Pixel 4 owners will be in for a nice little treat.
Especially given that Google One normally costs money. That being said, the most basic plan for Google One isn't that expensive. So, even having to pay for it every month wouldn't be too bad.
Google One free trial should be for Pixel 4 & Pixel 4 XL
This is likely no surprise to anyone. But, if Google ends up giving out a Google One package for 90 days at no cost, both Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL buyers are likely to be included.
Since they're essentially the same phone at different sizes. It's also likely that users will be able to claim the trial as soon as they get the phone.
This wouldn't be any different from what Google use to do with Drive. On past Android devices like the HTC One M8, it gave away additional Drive storage as a partner offer. It also did the same thing with various Chromebook purchases.
The 90-day trial will be for the 100GB package
According to the data found in the APK the trial will be for the 100GB package. Google One offers various packages for additional storage. Each with its own associated monthly cost.
The 100GB package is $1.99 a month, so even when the trial ends, if you need or want to keep the extra storage it won't cost you a lot. Should users need more space, they can upgrade to something like the 2TB option which is $9.99 a month.
Users worried about claiming the free offer in a timely manner won't have to stress too much. Apparently it'll be good for well over a year. Specifically it seems the offer to claim the 90-day Google One trial will be good until April 15 of 2021.
If that's the case, then you could wait until you actually use up more space before you commit to using your trial up. Which really just results in it lasting longer in a roundabout way.
For those who have never used Google One before, its purpose is to give you more storage for Gmail, Drive, and Photos. If you have a Pixel phone you already have plenty of space for these services, so this will really just add a whole lot more.
