Android 10 had arrived for the OnePlus 7 series in the form of a beta build. That update arrived on the same day Google released Android 10 stable build for Pixel phones. Well, it seems like OnePlus is getting ready to bring Android 10 to the OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T as well.
The company has released a new Open Beta update for the OnePlus 6 series. This update does not bring Android 10 to the table, as with the OnePlus 7 series, but it's preparing the two phones for Android 10's arrival.
This update has one goal
OnePlus clearly says what this update is for in its official forum post. The company says that "this build is meant to prepare your devices for the Android 10 Update which will be released later this month".
OnePlus did not clarify whether Android 10 will arrive in beta form or stable form to the two devices later this month. It is safe to assume that it is talking about a beta build, though. Why? Well, a beta build arrived to the OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro, and those two devices will get a stable build before the OnePlus 6 series.
The OnePlus 7 series probably won't get a stable update before the end of this month, though anything is possible.
Different update versions, same updates
This new Open Beta update for the OnePlus 6 series is marked as Open Beta 25 and 17. The Open Beta 25 build comes for the OnePlus 6, and Open Beta 17 for the OnePlus 6T. This is the same update for both devices, though it's marked differently.
There is only one entry in the official changelog, and the company's quote pretty much explains it. The only purpose of this update is to prepare the two devices for Android 10.
If you're already running an Open Beta build on your OnePlus 6 or 6T handset, you'll get this update OTA (Over-the-Air). If you are not running an Open Beta build, and would like to install it, you'll need to do it manually. Full instructions are available via the link in the second paragraph of this article.
Android 10 beta build which arrived to the OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro is actually quite stable, it seems. The company had released quite a few Android Q (aka Android 10) Developer Preview builds for the two phones prior to it, so that's not surprising. All in all, it seems like Android 10 stable is right around the corner for the two devices.
The OnePlus 6 series will get Android 10 Open Beta later this month
Luckily for the OnePlus 6 series users, such an update doesn't seem to be far off for them either. Both devices will get the first Android 10 Open Beta later this month. Chances are that the update will be quite stable.
The OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T are no longer brand new devices. The OnePlus 6 was announced in mid-2018, while the 6T followed later that year.
These two phones are both fueled by the Snapdragon 845, though, and are quite powerful in general. It is commendable that OnePlus is doing its best to secure Android 10 for those two phones as well, as many people still use them.
