Hipcamp has launched its Android application, which is now available via the Google Play Store. Hipcamp's Android application follows its iOS counterpart, which has been available since May. Hipcamp says that half of its bookings now arrive through a mobile device, either via an app, or via mobile web, and considering that an Android app is now available as well, that percentage will probably increase further.
For those of you who don't know, Hipcamp was founded back in 2013, and it managed to become quite successful over the last six years. This is an online marketplace which helps people discover and book unique camping trips. Using this service, you can search for available campsites based on location, natural landscape, activities offered, and amenities. You can also filter by tent or RV camping, and lodging type as well.
Descriptions of camping sites on Hipcamp are community-sourced, and the same goes for photos and reviews, as there are over 300,000 camps, glamp, and RV sites in its database, across the country (the US).
Using Hipcamp you can actually find a pet-friendly cabin in the woods for the weekend, if you want, or an RV near the Great Smoky Mountains. This app is quite versatile if you're just looking to get away for a bit, and prefer to relax surrounded by nature. This app even allows you to filter accommodations based on your favorite activities, such as hiking, fishing, and surfing, just so Hipcamp can suggest the best possible places for you.
As far as the app's design is concerned, well, it's quite simple, and that's not a bad thing at all. If you take a look at the gallery down below, you'll be able to see what you can expect. Hipcamp opted to combine a white background, with shades of gray and black icons and text, with a touch of turquoise-like color.
Most icons in the app are hollow, and they actually work well with this design. This design is actually more in line with something we'd see on iOS, but that's not surprising considering that the app first launched to iOS-based devices, so… yeah. This design does work really well on Android as well, though, so no worries.
At the very top of the home page, you will notice a general search that you can utilize, and there you can also select which dates you're interested in. "Map" and "Filters" options are also available here, but they're placed towards the bottom of the display.
At the very bottom of this app's UI, you will find four tabs, Discover, Saves, Trips, and Me. The Discover option allows you to discover various campsites based on recommendations provided by Hipcamp, while Saves is basically your own personal bookmarking tool for accommodations you find on Hipcamp. Trips are your planned trips, and the Me option basically allows you to take a look at your Hipcamp profile.
If you're planning to take a trip in the near future, and need an app like this, or have used Hipcamp in the past, feel free to grab the app and see what it's all about. You can download it directly via the Play Store, just click the link down below.
