What do tacos and smartphones have in common? Nothing. Absolutely nothing at all. That isn't stopping T-Mobile from partnering up with Taco Bell to create the food fusion mashup in 2019 that no one asked for. Feast your eyes on T-MoBell. The pop-up stores that want to right fit you with the perfect smartphone and wireless plan and aim to draw you in with free tacos.
Taco Bell has been telling everyone to think outside the bun for years, and T-Mobile has taken that message to heart quite literally if the new pop-up stores are any indication. Those wishing to pair a new phone with cheesy beefy flavors will be able to do so beginning July 23, but only for three days and only if they're located (or willing to drive to) one of the three cities where the pop-up stores are going to be present during the specified dates.
Where might those cities be you ask? If you're in Los Angeles, Chicago, or New York between July 23 and July 25 then you can make your way to one of these stores and grab yourself some free food. T-Mobile says the pop-ups will be located at its signature stores in these cities, and the events will be going from 2pm to 5pm each of those three days.
Free tacos and swag are available to anyone that attends the events which means you literally have to buy nothing, and if you're a Taco Bell freak who just can't get enough of the Bell then you could technically go all three days to knock out at least one of your meals. The food will include free crunchy tacos with T-Mobile-branded taco sleeves and an exclusive T-MoBell freeze that is going to match the carrier's magenta color scheme and have a white cherry flavor.
In addition to the food, the free swag will include limited edition T-MoBell socks and a phone wallet for your device. Sadly, there's no taco pouches to make carrying around your food a hands-free affair, so you'll just have to eat your tacos right away.
The exclusive merch will be limited and T-Mobile is urging anyone planning to attend to show up early so you get first pick before all the good stuff is gone. Each location is also going to have a celebrity "surprise special guest" that will be there to sign autographs in a meet and greet fashion. There will be giveaways for anyone who hangs out at these T-MoBell pop-ups too, so sticking around for longer than it takes to down a taco and freeze may be recommended.
If you're saddened by the fact that you won't be able to make it to this year's most odd brand collaboration, dry those eyes. T-Mobile is giving away prizes to anyone who follows the company on Twitter by July 23, and prizes can include anything from a $500 gift card from Taco Bell to prize packs that include various items like Powerbeats Pro headphones and UE MEGABOOM 3 speakers.
If you think this is weird, it is. There's no doubt about that. It's also likely to be an extremely effective tactic to garner some attention for both brands, especially since you don't even have to be a T-Mobile customer to reap the seasoned beef rewards. Simply show up and get your free taco and freeze and let T-Mobile take care of your lunch.
