Verizon is running a promo right now that is great for those looking to make the jump to its network. If you switch to Verizon's network and bring your own phone with you, Verizon will give you a $250 Prepaid Mastercard. That is good to use anywhere, and essentially acts like free money. In an essence, Verizon is paying you to switch to its network.
In the past, there weren't many unlocked phones available that worked with Verizon's network. But that's not the case anymore. Most unlocked phones work on Verizon, including Sony's newest smartphones. That includes the Xperia 10 and Xperia 10 Plus (soon the Xperia 1). If you have a Pixel smartphone, that will work on Verizon as well. Switching to Verizon has never been easier. Just sign up for service, get your SIM card and insert it into the phone and you're good to go. It really can't get much easier than that.
Verizon has the best network in the US, but that also means that you are paying a premium to have that service, and Verizon is the most expensive carrier in the country. But you can get unlimited from Verizon for as low as $80 per month (or $75 with autopay). There are some caveats to that unlimited plan though, for example, you are more likely to get throttled, video is capped at 480p etc. But if you don't want to get throttled as much, and do want high-resolution video or mobile hotspot, you can get that for just $10 more per month.
