The Huawei P20 Lite was announced back in March last year as part of the P20 series of devices, and to much of our surprise, the company is planning to launch the P20 Lite 2019 this year, at least according to Roland Quandt.
The tipster shared the info via his official Twitter account, and managed to surprise many. The Huawei P30 Lite had already been quietly announced by the company last year, so announcing the P20 Lite 2019 does not really seem like a great idea. That move will confuse many people, as the P20 series is tied to 2018, not 2019.
Truth be said, Huawei still did not confirm anything, but Mr. Quandt seems rather confident his information is spot on. He does have a really great track record when it comes to leaking such info, so we’ll assume he’s right.
Mr. Quandt did not share any info regarding the phone, though, but no matter what way we look at it, that phone will probably be quite similar to the P30 Lite. The Huawei P30 Lite is made out of metal, and it comes with three cameras on the back, and a tiny dewdrop notch. The P20 Lite, on the other hand, had included two cameras on the back (in the same place as the P30 Lite), and it shipped with a larger notch than the P30 Lite.
Well, if the P20 Lite 2019 does become a thing, the phone will probably include either a dewdrop notch, or a waterdrop one, as we’re not really seeing Huawei utilizing a display camera hole here, as not a single other P series smartphone has such a setup. The device will probably be made out of metal and plastic / glass, and include a rear-facing fingerprint scanner, a regular capacitive one, just like the Huawei P30 Lite.
The Huawei P20 Lite was fueled by the Kirin 659 64-bit octa-core processor, but Huawei had introduced the Kirin 710 a while back, and that chip is fueling the P30 Lite. The Huawei P20 Lite 2019 will presumably ship with that very same processor, which is one of Huawei’s most powerful mid-range chips at the moment.
It is even possible that the Huawei P20 Lite 2019 will be a rebranded Huawei P30 Lite for some markets, but we’re still wondering why would the company do something like that instead of promoting its P30 series… so that doesn’t really add up either.
The Huawei 20 Lite 2019, if it launches, will ship with Android 9 Pie out of the box, while Huawei’s Emotion UI (EMUI) 9 Android overlay will be included on top of it. The phone will probably sport a display which will measure around 6 inches in diagonal, and include fullHD+ resolution, just like the P30 Lite. The phone will likely ship with two SIM card slots as well, while we’re probably looking at a hybrid setup.
All in all, the Huawei P20 Lite 2019 is a huge mystery at this point, as pretty much nobody expected that phone to become a thing. Only time will tell whether Mr. Quandt’s information is right, so stay tuned for further info.
