Xiaomi-backed Black Shark company has announced that its second-gen gaming smartphone will be announced on March 18. The name of the device will be the "Black Shark 2", and it is safe to say that it will be fueled by the Snapdragon 855, even though nothing has been confirmed just yet.

This handset will first land in China, as this information was shared via Weibo (Chinese social network), in Chinese, but it is possible that the phone may reach other markets after it gets announced.

Just to be clear, this is not the second device Black Shark announced, as the company introduced two devices prior to it, the Black Shark and Black Shark Helo. The Black Shark, the company's very first phone, arrived in April last year, while the Black Shark Helo was announced back in October. The Black Shark Helo was essentially a more powerful variant of the Black Shark, but it was powered by the same processor as the company's first flagship.

Black Shark's CEO actually confirmed earlier this week that the upcoming flagship will ship with Liquid Cooling 3.0 technology, which is a tower-type liquid cooling system. The company will talk more about this cooling technology during the event, but it is supposed to keep the phone cool enough at all times.

Some of the Black Shark 2's specs did surface recently, thanks to its listing on AnTuTu. The phone appeared on AnTuTu as the "Blackshark Skywalker". AnTuTu revealed that the phone will be fueled by the Snapdragon 855, as mentioned earlier, while it also revealed that it will include 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. It is possible that Black Shark ends up releasing more than one variant of the phone, though.

Android 9 Pie will come pre-installed on the device, said AnTuTu, while the phone will sport a display with a fullHD+ (2340 x 1080) resolution. We still do not know what size will its display be, but you can expect it to be larger than 6 inches. The phone managed to hit 359,973 points on AnTuTu, which is quite a high score, but it still puts this phone behind the Xiaomi Mi 9, as the Mi 9 managed to score 371,849.

Keep in mind that this is just a prototype, though, we'll see how the phone will fare once it gets released. It is also safe to say that the device will include two SIM card slots, and that a larger battery will be included as well, plus at least two cameras on the back. An OLED display is also expected, as the Black Shark Helo sported one.

The design of the phone is a complete mystery at this point, but if the Black Shark and Black Shark Helo are anything to go by, it will be different than pretty much every other phone on the market. Smartphone manufacturers really love to released gaming phones with interesting, eye-catching designs, so the Black Shark 2 probably will not be an exception. You can expect it to sport a rather interesting pattern on the back, just like its predecessor, and quite possibly some extra physical keys as well. Black Shark may even include an LED strip on the back fo the phone, or something of the sort, but we're only guessing here.
