Xiaomi had introduced its Mi 9 flagship a couple of days ago in China, and the global variant of the phone has just been announced in Barcelona. Xiaomi hosted a press conference as part of the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2019, and in addition to announcing its first 5G-enabled device, the Mi MIX 3 5G, the global unit of the Mi 9 also dropped.
Truth be said, if you’ve paid attention to the phone’s launch in China the other day, you pretty much know what this is about, though Xiaomi did share the phone’s availability when it comes to markets outside of China. We will talk about the device a bit later in this article, let’s first focus on its pricing and availability, as most of you are probably interested in that aspect.
Xiaomi had announced that the Xiaomi Mi 9’s pricing will start at €449 in Europe, and it will be available with 6GB of RAM, and in two storage variants. The variant with 64GB of storage will set you back €449, while the variant with 128GB of storage will cost €499. Xiaomi has announced that Ocean Blue, Lavender Violet, and Piano Black color variants will be available, though we still do not know if they will go on sale in all available markets, or will their availability be market-dependent.
The phone will be available for pre-order starting today in Spain, Italy, and France, and several other European countries will join in from February 28, when the phone will become available for purchase. The company did not say when the phone will arrive to India and other Asian countries, outside of China, if that’s something you’re interested in.
Xiaomi Mi 9 Offers A Lot, While Not Costing Much
The Xiaomi Mi 9 is made out of metal and glass, it sports a teardrop notch at the top of the display, and it has a really thin “chin” below the display. The display sports rounded corners, while its back side is curved. On the back of the phone, you will notice three vertically-aligned cameras in the top-left corner, while an LED flash is located below those cameras.
The phone is really powerful under the hood, it is fueled by the Snapdragon 855 64-bit octa-core processor, while it comes with 6GB of LPDDR4X RAM in the global variant (an 8GB RAM model was not mentioned), with 64GB or 128GB of UFS 2.1 storage, depending on the variant you opt to get. The phone features a 6.39-inch fullHD+ Super AMOLED display, which is protected by Gorilla Glass 6.
A 3,300mAh non-removable battery is also included in the package, and it comes with 27W fast charging, and 20W fast wireless charging. The phone includes an optical in-display fingerprint scanner, while there are 48, 12, and 16-megapixel cameras on the back, while a 20-megapixel unit is included on the device’s front side.
Android 9 Pie comes pre-installed on the phone, with Xiaomi’s MIUI 10 Android overlay. The phone also includes Bluetooth 5.0, and supports Dual 4G VoLTE. There are two SIM card slots available on the inside, while the device measures 157.5 x 74.67 x 7.61mm, and weighs 173 grams.
