Android 9 Pie Is Now Rolling Out To The Razer Phone 2

Razer has announced that the Razer Phone 2 has started receiving the Android 9 Pie update. Do keep in mind that we’re talking about unlocked Razer Phone 2 units, of course. Razer says that the phone will operate “more intuitively, more efficiently utilize its battery and significantly enhance user experience”.

The company also announced that it has decided to discount the Razer Phone 2 for a limited time, the phone will be available for $499 (original price tag is $799.99) via Razer.com and authorized retailers starting on March 1.

Razer said that, as part of this update, you will be getting gesture-based navigation with Google Assistant, interactive app functionality and search, battery life optimizations, privacy features including background app controls, access to digital well-being, video recording in 4K at 60 fps and more.

The company even shared a link to Google’s official Android 9 Pie website, as Razer’s iteration of Android is quite close to stock Android, so pretty much every change that Google made to Android 9 Pie, you will get on the Razer Phone 2, if it’s not exclusive to Pixel devices, of course.

Adaptive Battery and Adaptive Brightness are also a part of the package, of course, the same goes for App Actions and Slices. A brand new overview menu will also be rolling out to the Razer Phone 2, Android 9 Pie’s horizontal one. There are a number of additional features that the Razer Phone 2 owners will get access to, and you can read more about that by clicking here.

The Razer Phone 3 May Not Launch At All

A recent report actually claimed that Razer let go the “majority of its mobile device”. Razer did respond to that report, but did not say that the Razer Phone 3 has been canceled or anything of the sort, the company simply said that its workforce had been downsized by about 2-percent overall, and that “several projects” have been canceled.

The Razer Phone 2 was announced back in October last year, and its successor was expected to arrive in the fourth quarter of this year, but at the moment, we’re not sure if it will launch at all. Razer did not specifically say that the Razer Phone 3 is not canceled, nor did it confirm that it is, so it’s possible that they either want to keep everyone in the dark, or that they’re still thinking about it themselves.

Razer Phone 2 Details

The Razer Phone 2 is actually quite similar to its predecessor in terms of the design, it sports an industrial design, and doesn’t really care about sporting extremely thin bezels or anything of the sort. One of the phone’s main features is its 5.72-inch QHD display with a 120Hz refresh rate, while the phone is fueled by the Snapdragon 845.

The Razer Phone 2 originally shipped with Android 8.1 Oreo, and it is IP67 certified for water and dust resistance. The phone is made out of aluminum, and it comes with 8GB of RAM, while it includes a 4,000mAh non-removable battery. The Razer Phone 2 supports both 18W fast charging (Quick Charge 4+), and 15W wireless charging.
