Verizon Launches GizmoWatch; LG V40 ThinQ Pre-Orders Open

In short: While most of the talk this week is all about the Google Pixel 3 - especially at Verizon, seeing as it is the only carrier selling the device - Verizon does have a few other devices launching. Today, it announced that the GizmoWatch is now available for $179 and can be added to your Verizon account for $5 per month. It also announced the LG V40 ThinQ pre-orders are now open, a full day before AT&T and T-Mobile opens their pre-orders for the device. Verizon also wants to remind everyone that the Midnight Black Galaxy Note 9 will be available beginning tomorrow in 128GB storage capacity, while the 512GB storage capacity will be available on October 26.

The GizmoWatch is the latest in the line of Gizmo products that Verizon sells, and this one here is replacing the GizmoGadget. This is essentially a kids smartwatch, and it is aimed at kids that are just a bit too young for a phone, but you still need to get a hold of them, know where they are, etc. With the GizmoWatch, parents are able to see where their kids are, by opening the phone on their app. They can also set up GPS boundaries, so when the child leaves those boundaries, they get a notification. Additionally, if you need to call your child, you can do so right there on the GizmoWatch. The watch also provides a set of ten contacts that the child can call in case of emergency. And like any smartwatch, it also provides step tracking, which should help you get your kids more active as well.

LG V40 ThinQ

The LG V40 ThinQ was announced last week by LG, as its latest smartphone. And it will be available on all four carriers. Pre-orders open tomorrow at AT&T and T-Mobile, but Verizon has opened them a day early, to beat the competition. The LG V40 ThinQ sports a 6.4-inch OLED display, with the Snapdragon 845 chipset, 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage inside. It does also boast five cameras - three on the back and two on the front - so as you can imagine, the big selling point with this phone is indeed the camera. On the back, LG is using a wide-angle sensor, a regular/main sensor and then a telephoto sensor. So no matter the shot you want to get, you can get it with the LG V40 ThinQ.

Background: Verizon has been releasing quite a few devices lately, which is not a huge surprise, as carriers and retailers are  looking to stock their shelves before the holiday season gets under way pretty soon. Verizon has also been virtually the only one to launch smartwatches aimed at kids. And while many may think that a kid doesn't need a smartwatch, it's actually a great way to keep track of your kids while you are at work and they are at school, or at soccer practice, or some other after-school activity. It allows them to have some freedom, since the parents can also check to see exactly where the child is. And the Gizmo smartwatches have been selling pretty well for Verizon so far.

Impact: The GizmoWatch is available today for $179, it comes in two colors: Pink and Blue. So there is an option for boys and another for girls. It can be added to your Verizon account for $5 per month, which is needed since it does use Verizon's 4G LTE network. It won't use much data though, so for $5 per month, that's a pretty good deal. Meanwhile the LG V40 ThinQ is priced at $979.99 or $32.49 per month. Now if you finance the LG V40 ThinQ, you will actually save $200, as that total comes out to $779, and that's a really good deal, especially since this is a pre-order. The LG V40 ThinQ comes in two colors as well: Aurora Black and Moroccan Blue. Pre-orders are slated to ship by next Friday, October 18.
