Popular industry insider Evan Blass yesterday tweeted a press render of the upcoming Google Pixel 3 XL flaunting one of its stock wallpapers. The wallpaper in question is rather minimalist and has a large ‘3’ depicting the third generation of Pixel-branded phones. Most of the Pixel 3 leaks so far have shown the Google flagships sporting this particular wallpaper, though in different hues depending on the phone’s body color. Last year’s Pixel 2 series was shipped with a version of live wallpapers that gained a fair amount of fanfare and it quickly turned into a differentiating factor for the two high-edn phones. Hopefully, these insipid Pixel 3 wallpapers will be reserved only for the marketing material while the retail devices may get several newer wallpapers.
Besides mentioning the wallpaper, Blass hasn’t confirmed any new information about the Pixel 3 XL and the handset’s design also looks exactly like the previously leaked photos, including the ones recently reported by AndroidHeadlines. As per these leaks, the Pixel 3 series won’t undergo a radical redesign and will be largely inspired by its predecessor. Toward the back, the high-end Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL will continue featuring a single-camera setup, against the growing industry norm of including three or more camera sensors. The Google Pixel 2 series’ rear camera was considered one of the best in business even though the competition was going for two rear cameras back then. The tech giant could provide a similar set of camera features as its rivals using its software algorithms which will possibly be baked into the upcoming Pixel 3 lineup as well.
However, the company is also receiving critical feedback for its decision to go for a notched display on the bigger Pixel 3 XL. The notch appears to be significantly taller than that of its rivals resulting in a thicker status bar, while the bottom bezel is also strikingly thick, though it houses a front-facing speaker that pairs with the earpiece for providing a stereo effect. Being 2018 flagships, both the Pixel 3 and the Pixel 3 XL will come equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 with at least 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal memory. The smaller one of the two will reportedly get a 5.4-inch 1080p display while the XL model will sport a 6.71-inch 1440p display panel. Both the devices will debut on Tuesday at a dedicated event hosted by Google.
