In Short: In case you’re on the lookout for a new minimalistic launcher, well, you’ll be glad to know that one such launcher just appeared in the Google Play Store, and it’s called Lunar Launcher. It doesn’t get much simpler than this when it comes to launchers, that’s for sure. Once you fire up Lunar Launcher, you will be presented with three pages. The middle page will ask you to “add some favorites”, and it means favorite apps, of course. The page on the left will show you more launcher options, and the page on the right basically shows a list of all of your applications, it’s a regular app drawer.
Now, if you’d like to add some favorite apps, the ones you use the most, to the middle page in this launcher, all you have to do is long-press on any app in the app drawer, and select the ‘Add to favorites’ option. From the app drawer, you can also access info page for any of the apps you have installed, you can hide apps from the app drawer, and you can also uninstall them. Your app drawer and favorite apps pages are as simple as it gets, there is not design included here whatsoever, the only thing you’ll see on the display are your app icons, their names, and the background you chose, that’s it… well, truth be said, a barely visible scroll indicator pops up when you scroll through your app drawer, but that’s more or less it.
As far as launcher options are concerned, they’re all located in the left page, and they all fit on that page without needing to scroll down or anything of the sort. This launcher offers you to tweak icon visibility, hide certain applications, charge order of your favorite apps, set a wallpaper, change the color of your background, and also change the text color inside the launcher. That’s more or less it as far as options are concerned, though you can also get in touch with the app’s developer from that page.
Background: Lunar Launcher has been published by a developer called “Maarten Dekkers”, and this is his second app in the Play Store, the first one actually has horrible reviews, despite the fact the developer notes that an app has been made as a joke. Lunar Launcher, on the other hand, has great reviews, eight people reviewed it thus far, and it is currently holding a 4.9-star score in the Play Store. This app is only 1.7MB large, and it requires you to have Android 5.0+ installed on your phone in order to use it. This is version 1.1.2 of the app, and a couple of dozen people installed it thus far.
Impact: Launchers are dime a dozen in the Play Store, though there’s always room for more, especially if it’s a compelling product. Lunar Launcher is one of the most simplistic launchers you can find in the Play Store, and if you’re looking for something like that, a launcher that will get out of your way and put all the emphasis on your apps, Lunar Launcher may be just right for you.
