Samsung Galaxy S10 To Feature Asymmetrical Bezels: Rumor

Samsung’s Galaxy S10-series smartphones will feature asymmetrical bezels but offer a noticeably higher screen-to-body ratio than their predecessors, according to a new rumor that started making the rounds on Twitter earlier today. The top bezel of the upcoming handset lineup will be slightly larger than the chin beneath it, though the latter may be twice as slim as the bezel found on the front of the newly released Galaxy Note 9. The asymmetrical front look of the Galaxy S10 family is said to be a result of component placement, though it’s presently unclear which specific internals are responsible for it.

Compared to Samsung’s 2018 flagships, the Galaxy S10 line should debut in-screen fingerprint readers and possibly even feature a depth-sensing 3D camera setup. Seeing how the latter technology has so far only been commercialized with a display notch, as seen on the likes of Apple’s iPhone X and Xiaomi’s Mi 8, a cutout-free 3D camera would already be an industry first, even if it results in a slightly thicker top bezel. Implementing a depth-sensing system into its new flagships would allow Samsung to deliver faster and more accurate (i.e. secure) facial recognition and improve the polarizing AR Emoji functionality of its current high-end product family.

Samsung is rumored to have devised a notch-free 3D camera in collaboration with Mantis Vision, an Israeli startup it already backed several years back. The South Korean original equipment manufacturer is expected to announce the Galaxy S10 line near the end of the first quarter of 2019, possibly at the next iteration of annual MWC trade show taking place in Barcelona, Spain. The series is rumored to consist of three models, though it’s still unclear whether 5G capabilities will be part of the package. The Galaxy S10 family should debut as Samsung’s first mobile line powered by 7nm chips which offer unprecedented processing capabilities and energy efficiency.
