According to listings published on LinkedIn, Glassdoor, and Huawei’s own website, the company is looking for new sales account managers, administrative assistants, software engineers, data analysts, IoT experts, OS architects, and everything in between.
Background: The Chinese technology giant presently employs around 1,200 people in the U.S., according to its own website. Its hiring spree comes following a months-long public spat with stateside legislators which saw Capitol Hill outlaw the federal use of Huawei-made equipment and software on any significant scale, citing national security concerns. The Shenzhen-based firm called the development “unconstitutional” and misguided,” maintaining that it’s not Beijing’s puppet that could easily be used by China for spying on other countries. The ordeal was just the latest in the long history of issues Huawei had with the U.S. government and American companies, with the firm often being accused of both espionage and trade secret theft. In last week’s interview with AndroidHeadlines, security expert Mick Hagen called Huawei “a clear threat” to the West.
Impact: Huawei appears to be at least partially counteracting the effects of large-scale U.S. layoffs it started this April, with the company now looking to fill a broad range of positions that indicate its stateside business ambitions aren’t going anyway in spite of fierce opposition from both the federal government and American lawmakers. The company is hence expected to continue releasing a limited selection of new products in the U.S., with the next such offering presumably coming in the form of the Mate 20 Android flagship lineup which will be officially announced on October 16.
