TiVo Corporation and TDS Telecom are partnering on a new generation of high-tech video entertainment solutions, the two companies announced Tuesday. The main goal of the collaboration is a video platform that TDS will be making available to its cable and wireline TV subscribers, with the product itself being powered by TiVo's technologies. The platform will seek to differentiate itself from rivaling solutions by offering an unprecedented degree of personalization and dynamically adjust its offerings depending on the user's preferences and past behaviors.
The service itself will be cloud-based and extremely versatile, with the two companies describing it as fully "device-agnostic." Voice control will also be part of the package and given how TiVo already embraced Amazon's Alexa, the same artificial intelligence assistant is likely to be supported by the upcoming platform as well. TDS sees the partnership as a way to improve customer engagement and retention rates, the firm said. The upcoming service is said to be highly scalable and extremely flexible in terms of applications. TDS also expects the platform to provide it with more tools allowing for faster responses to changes in customer needs, as well as new market demands.
The content delivery network backing the solution will be provided by Nokia, i.e. come in the form of the Nokia Velocrix Media Delivery Platform. Android and Android TV will both be fully compatible with the new service, as will Amazon's Fire TV, iOS, and Apple TV, the companies said. The supposedly cutting-edge content ecosystem still doesn't have a firm release window attached to it but is expected to debut later this year. TDS and TiVo are hoping their partnership will lead to a new generation of home entertainment, though the upcoming solution is still likely to face fierce competition from a wide variety of other content distributors in the United States.
