Huawei Trademarks More Smart Speaker Brandings

At least one new trademark filed with the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) suggests that Huawei could have a smart speaker on the way with features to rival those of Google Home. The trademark, covering the combination of words 'Huawei Halo' for branding, is placed under Nice Classification 9 and is currently undergoing examination for review. That means it applies to a range of products but the most interesting of those may be as a smart speaker. More directly, that applies to a smart speaker with integrated router, voice assistant, and high-quality loudspeaker as well as devices featuring voice commands and recognition. That's in addition to providing remote control and monitoring of other "consumer" electronic devices. The implication is that the device dubbed "Halo" and listed under filing 017926170 would deliver the same functions as a smart home speaker such as Google Home. It also seems ready to expand home autonomy options and working as a router.

That trademark would also seem to apply solely to the European Union if it is approved by the agency. However, there also appear to be at least two other names being trademarked in the same category. Those are the Huawei AI Cube and Huawei Inter home. It's not immediately clear where these would also apply to the different marketing of the same device for different areas. the same type or a range of products with slightly different functionality. Huawei has been relatively tight-lipped about upcoming speaker-based products bearing those brandings. The filing with the E.U. seems to suggest that's the market it would be headed for but there's no indication as to when that might be happening or any other aspects of the device or devices.

This also isn't the first smart speaker to be trademarked by Huawei. Another trademark filed back in May with the EUIPO, may suggest that there's much more still to come from the company. Conversely, it could also just indicate a widespread effort to trademark names for products that are still early in development or in the planning stages and might not arrive for quite some time. Whatever the case may be, Huawei appears to be gearing up to enter the home speaker and automation market in a very big way.
