In addition to announcing the Nova 3 smartphone, Huawei has also introduced the TalkBand B5, a mix between a fitness tracker, smartwatch, and a Bluetooth earphone. The Huawei TalkBand B5’s predecessor, the TalkBand B3, was often referred as a ‘hybrid’, and that may as well be the case with the TalkBand B5, as both devices serve the same purpose, in a way. Now, that may sound as a strange mix for those of you who haven’t seen or used the TalkBand B3, but the premise is actually quite interesting, and this is a useful device if you’re using a Bluetooth earphone often.
At first, the TalkBand B5 looks like a regular fitness tracker / smartwatch, but you can pop out its display and housing around it, and once you do, you’ll see that it’s basically a Bluetooth earphone, that is stuck inside a watch band. That Bluetooth earphone has a trip-core audio chip with high-definition voice, and two microphones for better noise reduction. The device supports caller ID, call muting, and speed dial option to quickly call one person, if that’s an option that you need. The device is IP67-rated for water and dust resistance, while it comes with optional 18mm straps in silicone, leather, and stainless steel, so that’s a matter of your preference. Huawei has included its TruRelax Technology inside of this device, and it analyses your heart rate variability, while it also accesses your stress status basically. Breath training for relaxing is also included in this device, while Huawei’s TruSleep 2.0 feature uses cardiopulmonary coupled dynamics spectrum (CPC) in order to monitor complete sleep structure including REM (deep sleep). The Huawei TruSeen 2.0 heart rate tech offers you 24-hours heart rate monitoring, so it can analyze your heart rate quite accurately.
On top of everything, this device also comes with step counting, calorie calculation, and distance measurement. The company did note that some of the TalkBand B5 features will require you to use either a Huawei or Honor phone with EMUI 4.1+, but the device is compatible with Android devices in general. The Huawei TalkBand B5 features a 1.13-inch (300 x 160) AMOLED display with a 2.5D curved glass on top of it. The device’s display is touch-sensitive, and the TalkBand B5 comes with Bluetooth 4.2. Your phone will need to run Android 4.4+ in order to be compatible with the TalkBand B5, and the device comes with a 108mAh battery. The TalkBand B5 measures 58.2 x 23.3 x 12.9mm, while it weighs 40 grams (excluding the strap). The device comes in Sport and Business editions. The TalkBand B5 Sports Edition comes in three different strap colors, Ash, Black, and Brown, while the Business Edition comes with a metal strap. The device is currently available for pre-order via Vmall in China, though its pricing is still unknown, it will be published on July 18. This device will go on sale in China on July 20, and it will roll out to more countries in the near future.
