Viber Adds 2018 World Cup Leaderboard Feature To Android App

Instant messaging service, Viber, has added a new 'Chat Leaderboards' feature to its Android app to celebrate the 2018 World Cup, currently underway in Russia. Viber is well aware of people's interest in getting together during events like this to make predictions on the outcome of games, and this new feature is designed to carry on that tradition, albeit through the instant messaging medium.

Just like fans would elsewhere, once a leaderboard has been set up, users will be able to make their predictions on a game-by-game basis and see how the leaderboard changes over time with the scores and rankings updated automatically. To get started, a user just needs to start a leaderboard in a group chat (can also be started through a private chat) and from then on those involved will be able to use the interface to quickly make their predictions before the start of each game for everyone else to see. It is worth noting users can be part of more than one leaderboard at the same time, although any predictions made will be applied to all of the leaderboards the user is associated with. In other words, users cannot make one prediction through one board, and a different prediction on another board.

In addition to creating and taking part in custom leaderboards, as well as some that have been set up by various companies including 90min and Goal Deutschland, Viber has also set up a global leaderboard which anyone can join, and one of the main benefits of this universal board is the various prizes that are up for grabs. With the headline one being a "VIP trip" to FC Barcelona's Camp Nou to watch the El Clásico with Real Madrid next season. That is, in addition to also being crowned "The Ultimate World Football Fan" on Viber. Those interested in a closer look at what to expect with the new feature can check out the video below. To further add to the World Cup experience, a new themed sticker pack is also now available.
