The Rock Cooks Up New Wireless Headphones With Under Armour

Dwayne Johnson, also known as "The Rock" has partnered with Under Armour to release a new set of headphones. The aptly named, UA Sport Wireless — Project Rock Edition. While these are another set of headphones they are not quite like most other headphones, as they are over-the-ear headphones while at the same being headphones designed for the gym.

Typically speaking, gym personal audio solutions are usually all about being discreet, in-ear, and most-often designed to not get in the way of a workout. Which seems to be the opposite here as the UA Sport Wireless — Project Rock Edition feature a more robust design and large cushioned ear cups which also feature The Rock's iconic bull logo. In spite of this, the headphones do come with an IPX4 rating offering protection against light water encounters, including rain, and of course, sweat. Adding to this last point, the headband is not only sweat-resistant but also made with anti-slip material. Specifically designed to ensure they are "training proof" and able to "withstand the toughest gym conditions." Further adding to their gym design, the ear cup cushions are removable and can be hand-washed.

As these are wireless headphones they do draw on Bluetooth (v4.1) to establish a connection with a device and are powered by a battery that is said to offer up to sixteen hours of usage in between charges. When a charge is needed, these headphones are understood to be able to replenish enough battery for one hour's worth of usage off the back of a five-minute quick charge. Alternatively, a two-hour charge is expected to be enough to regain the full sixteen hours of usage again. The headphones feature "oversized controls" designed for ease of use and once connected to a compatible smartphone can be used to activate voice assistants, including Google Assistant. As for the sound quality, these headphones apparently allow you to "crush your workout" thanks to the bass-focused JBL-tweaked sound. In terms of availability and pricing, the UA Sport Wireless — Project Rock Edition cost $249.99 each and are available to pre-order now. Along with the expectation pre-orders will begin shipping out to buyers from September 15, 2018.
