MX Player Hits 500 Million Downloads Milestone On Play Store

MX Player is one of the most popular video-playing applications for Android, and the app has just reached a rather important milestone, it has crossed that magic 500 million downloads number, which essentially means it has been installed by Android users 500 million times. Not a lot of applications can say that they’ve been installed 500 million times, there are those that have crossed 1 billion installs, of course, but those are mainly Google’s very own apps (a ton of which come pre-installed on devices, unlike MX Player), and apps from huge corporations, which MX Player’s development company, J2 Interactive, is not, even though the app got purchased by Times Internet earlier this year, so J2 Interactive not longer owns the app, technically.

MX Player has been around for a long time at this point, it was originally released back in 2011. MX Player is a video player which is free to use, but it comes with ads, which you can get rid of for a small one-time fee. That app still holds a 4.5-star rating in the Play Store, and a number of codecs are available for it in the Play Store as well, just in case you’re having issues playing specific types of video, or some of your devices are having such problems. MX Player was amongst the first video players for Android to allow you to include subtitles, and actually heavily edit them, if that’s something you need. Initially. This app became popular because of its customizability, and sheer performance, as there are a ton of options included in the app itself, so that you can tune your video the way you like it.

This application relies on gestures quite a bit as well, and it was amongst the first (in the video player category) that did that. If you simply swipe from left to right, you will be able to forward your video for about 10 seconds, while you will be able to rewind it a bit if you swipe from right to left. This is just one example of gesture use in MX Player, as already mentioned, you can tweak this app to your liking. If you’d like to check out this app for yourself, a download link has been included down below.
