Gboard Gets New GIF Effects, Custom Text Overlays & More

New Gboard update is here, and we’re looking at version 7.31 here. This new update brings along some new features, languages, and general improvements to the table. Let’s talk about features first, shall we. In this update, Google has added the ability to add custom text overlays to your GIFs. This essentially means that you can add text in various colors to basically any GIF you make.

Speaking of GIFs, Google has also added new GIF effects that you can play around. To be more specific, Google added three new GIF effects to the app, a box of popcorn which is placed at the bottom of the display, a number of hearts that surround the center of the display, and a window shade that opens to reveal your GIF. On top of that, Google has also added the option to search stickers in 15 more languages, while the company has added 28 new languages to the app itself, the following languages have been added: Bagri, Batak Toba, Bench, Bhili, Capiznon, Chavacano, Eastern Min, Fiji Hindi, Ge'ez, Gurani, Ingush, Karachay, Khorasani Turkic, Kipsigis, Maharashtrian Konkani, Lezgian, Mizo, Maguindanao, Malay (Brunei), Maranao, Southern Min, Northern Sami, Qashqa'i, Rinconada Bikol, Surjapuri, Tausug, Upper Saxon, Vasavi.

Those are pretty much all the changes that Google introduced in this update, in addition to regular optimizations and what not, of course. Google’s Gboard app has been around for quite some time now, and Google has added quite a few features to it. This application has been downloaded over half a billion times thus far, and it is the most popular keyboard for Android at the moment, which is not that surprising as it comes as a default option on a number of smartphones. In any case, Gboard v7.31 update is already rolling out, though it’s not available to everyone as we speak, this is a staged rollout, as is with every other app out there, so it may take a couple of days before the update becomes available to your device via the Google Play Store.
