August announced today that it was teaming up with Airbnb, which might be a bit of a strange partnership, but it really makes a lot of sense. With this partnership, those Airbnb hosts that have an August smart lock and a smart keypad, will be able to grant access for the guest for a limited time - the length of their stay. And since this code is going to be a temporary one, it won't be the same as the code a guest a few weeks from now will get to enter the home or apartment. This means that Airbnb hosts no longer need to worry about distributing physical keys and even passcodes to get into the building. Making it much easier and safer.
According to August's blog post, Airbnb hosts that have their properties linked with the August app will be able to setup a custom PIN code for the Smart Keypad, that will automatically be generated when an Airbnb reservation is made, or they can grant mobile phone access with the August app, or give guests both PIN code and August app access. Making it easier for the guest and the host. Once the guest makes the reservation through Airbnb, they will then receive a detailed email with instructions on how to enter the building - which will be based on the method that the host selected. After the reservation is over, the guest will lose access to the building.
This is a pretty neat feature that August is rolling out, and working with Airbnb on. Of course, Airbnb has become very popular in the last few years, as it's becoming cheaper to rent a room, an apartment or a home when you're traveling or on vacation, then to spend money on a hotel. And many people are renting out their homes to make some extra money while still doing their normal day job and such.
