Fitbit Versa smartwatch will soon be made available in the Indian market, the company announced earlier today. Major Indian offline stores, including Reliance Digital, Croma, and Helios, will start retailing the smartwatch starting from May 13 at a price of Rs. 19,999 ($297). For online sales, Amazon Indian will continue to be Fitbit’s exclusive retail partner. The buyers will have three color combinations to choose from – black strap with a black case, grey strap with a silver case, and peach strap with a rose gold case. The Versa Special Edition smartwatch, with support for NFC-based payments, was also announced alongside the standard variant at a slightly increased price of Rs. 21,999 ($327). Notably, Fitbit has yet to partner with any of the Indian banks to facilitate its payment system. Additional leather and metal straps were also announced to go on sale at a price between Rs. 2,499 ($37) and Rs. 8,499 ($126).
In addition to the Versa smartwatch, Fitbit also announced the Ace fitness tracker at a price of Rs. 7,990 ($119). Designed for kids, the Fitbit Ace comes in two bright colors – Electric Blue and Power Purple – and looks to be a modified version of Alta HR fitness band from the company. Fitbit’s family account allows kids to track their stats while the parents can also keep an eye on their kid's progress and overall fitness. The kids-oriented fitness tracker was introduced back in March alongside the Versa smartwatch before being launched in the Indian market. The wearable maker has included Fitbit OS 2.0 in its smartwatch that has been further improved to enable a better cross-platform support, besides providing features like on-device music, synced notifications, personalized health dashboard, etc. It is worth noting that the Versa smartwatch lacks built-in GPS capability and relies on a connected smartphone to log locations for outdoor activities.
The company claims to provide a battery life of up to 4 days on its smartwatch that features a 1.34-inch touch-enabled color display offering a brightness of up to 1,000 nits. Versa is a water-resistant smartwatch and can be worn while swimming up to a depth of 50 meters. It is compatible with major mobile platforms including Android and iOS and supports Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity options, besides NFC in the Special Edition. About 300 songs can be stored on the smartwatch itself, thanks to the 2.5GB of onboard storage. While a list of features is available right out of the box, more female-centric features will be introduced at a later stage via a software update.
