Deal: Amazon Fire TV (Certified Refurbished) for $49 - May 2018

Amazon currently has its Fire TV set-top box on sale for just $49.99. Now this is for the certified refurbished model, which is typically priced at $59.99, which makes this a pretty small deal, but still worth jumping on. Since this is a refurbished model, you do still get a warranty, so should anything go wrong, Amazon will take care of everything for you.

The Amazon Fire TV runs on the Fire TV platform which brings you a ton of great apps and games available. All of the big names are available, including Amazon Prime Video, Hulu, Netflix, HBO NOW, SHOWTIME ANYWHERE, DIRECTV NOW and so much more. It makes it really easy to essentially cut the cord from your cable company and move over to streaming everything. Now the Fire TV is a pendant model, so it's not quite a dongle, but not quite a set-top box. That won't affect the performance though, as you do still get 4K and HDR support here, giving you both a great picture, but also future proofs it for a few years while content jumps to the 4K and HDR standards. Now 1080p and 720p content will be upscaled, as long as you are using it on a 4K TV, which most people do have these days. The Fire TV is a great set-top box to pick up, and at $49.99, it's essentially a no-brainer.

This item is also eligible for Amazon Prime's free shipping. Which includes free two-day shipping, and pretty cheap (usually $3.99) next-day shipping if you need it extra fast. If you are not an Amazon Prime member yet, you can sign up for a free trial of Amazon Prime. You'll get 30 days free (if you're a student, you get 6 months), and then it's $99/year (or $49/year for students). Prime members do get a whole lot more than just free shipping though, so be sure to check out the full benefits.
