Top 10 Best Smart Light Bulbs - April 2018

Smart lights have become a pretty popular product in the smart home space as of late. It seems that every company looking to get into the smart home space has created a smart light or light bulb recently. This is great, because it provides plenty of competition to drive the price down but also bring in some rather cool smart lights, like the YEELIGHT Candela. Now that also means that it's going to be harder to decide which smart light to grab, so we listed the top 10 best smart lights down below. The majority of these are smart light bulbs, with one exception.

The one exception here is the LIFX Z. This is a smart LED light strip, which is going to be a great accent to your home. You can affix it to the back of your TV, put it around your desk, or even underneath your cabinets in the kitchen. This LED light strip can do over 16 million colors, so you can stick with the boring white color, or go with some red, purple, blue, or really any other color you want. Now the LIFX Z can be grouped with other LIFX bulbs and lights, like the A19 bulbs also on this list. So you can have them all in one room and tell Google to turn off all lights in that room with one command. Which is really nice, to be honest.

Another great option here is the Philips Hue ecosystem. There are a few entries on this list from Philips Hue, and that's because there are so many options here. You can choose from regular light bulbs or go a bit crazier with something like the Philips Hue Go. All of these work with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, and work with Apple Homekit for those that have Apple devices laying around. All of the smart lights on the list below are great options for people that are looking to bring some smart lights into their home or office, and you can't go wrong with any of them really.

Philips Hue White A19 4-Pack

This four pack of Philips Hue lights are great for putting in ceiling lights and lamps around your home. Since these are white A19 bulbs, and those lights won't really need to be in color. You can save some cash and get in on the Hue ecosystem which has some great lights that work with both Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa.

The Candela from YEELIGHT is a very interesting looking light. It's a smart light because it works with Android and iOS apps, but does not have Alexa or Google Assistant support. It's a smart candle, basically. Which looks really great and it can really add some cool vibes to your office or living room.

eufy Lumos Smart Bulb

Here's another option for a cheap, white light bulb. This is made by Eufy, which is part of Anker, and the Lumos Smart Bulb is a fantastic choice to pick up for your home. It does work with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, so you can use your voice to control them, and there is also an app available for both Android and iOS.

LIFX (A19) Wi-Fi Smart LED Light Bulb

LIFX is another popular name in this space, and its A19 bulbs are color bulbs. So they can do millions of different colors, and be controlled with the app. Now unlike Philips Hue, you don't need a bridge for these, and you can group as many as you want for a specific room. It also works with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant and Apple's Homekit.

Philips Hue Go

Here's another member of the Hue ecosystem, and this one is a cool one to pick up for your home. It's essentially a light bowl that can be placed anywhere, since it has a built-in battery, it is actually portable. The battery will last around three hours. Additionally, this one can do about 16 million different colors, and works with Amazon Alexa, and Google Assistant.

LIFX Z (Starter Kit) Wi-Fi Smart LED Light Strip

Okay, this isn't actually a light bulb, but it is a smart light, and it's a perfect addition to your home. This is a strip of smart LED lights, that can do around 16 million colors as well. They can be affixed to your desk, under your cabinets, or even behind your TV. Putting these behind your TV will give you an even greater viewing experience, which is definitely a good thing.

Kasa Smart Wi-Fi LED Light Bulb

Kasa, which is a sub-brand of TP-Link also has a great set of smart light bulbs available. This one here is a white bulb, which is going to be cheaper than some others on this list, but also great for regular ceiling lights anyways. This one does work with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant as you'd expect.

Philips Hue White and Color Ambiance A19 60W Equivalent LED Smart Bulb Starter Kit

We listed Philips Hue's white started kit, now this is the color starter kit. Which includes three A19 color bulbs along with the Hue Bridge to get you started. As is the case with other Hue lights listed here, these are all compatible with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant and Apple Homekit.

Element Classic by Sengled

Perhaps the cheapest smart bulb on this list, coming in at just $10. This is a smart, tunable white bulb. Which is why it's so cheap. But it still works with the usual personal assistants like Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, as well as working with its own app on both Android and iOS.

LIFX Mini Day & Dusk (A19)

This is LIFX's newest bulb, and it's a bit smaller than the other A19 sized bulb on this list. This is great for smaller lamps, but it is also cheaper, coming in around $30. This does "day" and "dusk" color temperatures, so it is a tunable white light as well. Of course, it also works with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant and Apple Homekit.
