OPPO A83 (2018) Announced With 4GB RAM In India At $240

OPPO today announced a new variant of its mid-range A83 Android smartphone in India with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. A variant of the device sporting 3GB of RAM and 32GB of flash memory was announced in the country back in January at a price of Rs. 13,990 ($210). The new variant offering more RAM and onboard storage has been priced at Rs. 15,990, which is approximately $240. Apart from these particulars, both the variants share all other specifications and carry the same design language. The Chinese brand has partnered some major Indian retail stores to market the variant across its online and offline channels, including Flipkart, Amazon, and Paytm Mall. Flipkart is offering an extra up to Rs. 15,000 ($225) off on exchanging a used smartphone.

Coming to its specifications, the OPPO A83 (2018) features an 18:9 (2:1) display measuring 5.7 inches that offers a resolution of 1,440 x 720 pixels and is covered with a 2.5D curved glass. An octa-core MediaTek Helio P23 processor powers the device and is paired with a Mali G71-MP2 GPU. As mentioned above, this variant comes sporting 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage, as opposed to 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage found on the variant launched early 2018. It is a dual-SIM device that comes running Android 7.1 Nougat-based ColorOS 3.2 and has no fingerprint scanner. A 13-megapixel camera offering f/2.2 aperture can be found on the handset’s back, while an 8-megapixel camera is present on the front. AI-based beautification features are accompanying the front camera of this OPPO device too with more than 200 facial features being pre-loaded. The OPPO A83 features a 3,180mAh battery, supports 4G VoLTE, and includes a 3.5mm headphone jack.

The China-based company was expected to push the Android 8.0 Oreo update to the device, but this variant still comes pre-loaded with an older version of Android. While the dimensions of this improved variant are similar to the 3GB RAM one, its weight has slightly increased to 143 grams from 141 grams of the latter. OPPO has implemented its own version of facial unlock feature in the phone which makes use of the front camera. The device will be available for purchase in Red, Blue, and Golden color options.
