The APK for the professional camera mode that was made available in Nokia's 7 Plus and Nokia 8 Sirocco has now been leaked. For those that may not recall, this is the same Camera application that Nokia promised to eventually bring to its handsets with Zeiss optics on-board. That promise has, as of this writing, gone unfulfilled. However, there may not be any reason for those who happen to own one of Nokia's smartphones with that particular build feature to wait at all. That's because it has purportedly been extracted from a leaked OTA update and released via XDA Developers in APK format.
The Camera in question is version 8.0260.50 and has the professional photo features included exactly as they were with the above-mentioned smartphones. Although many cameras come with similar features, Nokia's software is considered to be at or near the pinnacle of those. In fact, it was a major highlight of both of those HMD-built devices when they were first revealed. That means it gives users a much greater range of control over how an image is captured. Everything from the amount of light captured to white-balance and focus can be manually adjusted via ringed sliders. The result is that users can produce much more professional-looking photographs without the need for a lot of post-processing software.
It bears mentioning that this Camera APK has only been confirmed to have been tested on a Nokia 7, for the time being. So there's no guarantee it will work on any other handsets. It is grounded primarily in the Zeiss hardware, so it almost certainly won't add many benefits to Nokia smartphones without and may even cause undesirable outcomes. Having said that, the comments on the XDA Developers post in question seem to suggest the app will work with a much wider range of devices. That includes several that have custom ROMs installed that aren't even Nokia handsets to begin with. So, it should be well worth a shot for those who want to check it out and who have a device that meets that requirement.
