Huawei Aims To Sell Over 20 Million P20 Units In 2018

Huawei is expecting to sell more than 20 million Huawei P20 handsets this year. This information comes from the company’s CEO, Yu Chengdong (also known as Richard Yu), as he was interviewed recently in China. In the interview, Mr. Yu also said that Huawei investing a lot more money in R&D than other Chinese companies, he claims that Huawei invests 10 times more in R&D than the company’s competition in China, and that it helps the company innovate a lot more.

Richard Yu also committed to updating older smartphones, as he said that the company is constantly working on optimizing Emotion UI (EMUI), which is Huawei’s Android skin, and that updates will keep on coming to older devices. Having said that, Huawei had introduced three P20-branded smartphones thus far, the Huawei P20, P20 Pro, and P20 Lite. As far as sales are concerned. Mr. Yu was referring to all three devices, so the company is expecting to sell more than 20 million P20 devices in general, which seems plausible, as the P10 sales were quite good for the company, not to mention that Huawei is the third-largest smartphone OEM in the world now, and the company invests quite a bit of money into marketing as well. It seems like Europe is one of Huawei’s most important markets, as the company’s devices usually launch in Europe and China first.

The Huawei P20 trio was announced last month, the P20 and P20 Pro were announced at this year’s Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, while the P20 Lite arrived a bit sooner. The Huawei P20 Pro is the most powerful P20-branded handset, it comes with a triple camera setup on the back, while Leica’s lenses are a part of the package. The Huawei P20 and P20 Pro are fueled by the Kirin 970 64-bit octa-core processor, while all three P20 devices sport a display notch. The Huawei P20 and P20 Pro sport a front-facing fingerprint scanner, while the P20 Lite comes with a rear-facing unit. All three devices are already available for purchase in selected markets, and the P20 Lite is considerably more affordable than both the P20 and P20 Pro, in case you were wondering.
