Xiaomi has just announced a new smartphone in India, the Redmi 5. This phone was originally introduced back in December last year, in China, and that very same handset is now making its way to India. The Redmi 5 is Xiaomi’s budget offering, and it will be quite affordable in India. Xiaomi announced the Redmi 5’s price point for the Indian smartphone market, but the phone is still not available for purchase, it will become available starting on March 20, and you’ll be able to get it from Amazon India, Mi.com, and Mi Home Stores.
Having said that, the Redmi 5 comes in three variants, the most affordable variant sports 2GB of RAM and 16GB of native storage, this model is priced at Rs. 7,999. The 3GB RAM model comes with 32GB of internal storage, and it costs Rs. 8,999, while the most expensive option sports 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, and it is priced at Rs. 10,999. The Xiaomi Redmi 5 has been announced in Black, Gold, Rose Gold and Lake Blue color options in India, and if you purchase it, you will also get a clear case in the box. This handset is made out of metal, it sports a single camera on its back, below which you will notice an LED flash, and a fingerprint scanner. A 3.5mm headphone jack is included in the package as well, it sits on the top of the device, while the phone’s physical keys are located on the right. The phone’s display sports rounded corners, and the bezels on the Redmi 5 are not that thick at all.
Now, as far as specs are concerned, this phone sports a 5.7-inch HD+ (1440 x 720) display with a curved glass on top of it. The phone is fueled by the Snapdragon 450 64-bit octa-core processor, and the device’s storage is expendable. We’ve already listed all RAM and storage variants, while the device ships with a 3,300mAh non-removable battery. A 12-megapixel snapper (1.25um pixel size, f/2.2 aperture, PDAF) sits on the back of the phone, while a single 5-megapixel camera (f/2.0 aperture) can be found on the phone’s front side. An IR blaster is also included in this package, while you will also be able to find two SIM card slots on the inside (hybrid dual SIM setup). Android 7.1.2 Nougat comes pre-installed on the Redmi 5, while you will find Xiaomi’s MIUI 9 OS included on top of it.
