Xiaomi has just launched the Redmi Note 5 Pro in China, though an altered version under a different name. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro was initially introduced in India last month, along with the Redmi Note 5. Now, it is worth noting that the Redmi Note 5 Pro launched in China under a completely different name, it is called the Redmi Note 5 AI Dual Camera in the country. This name is a mouthful, and it seems a bit odd Xiaomi decided to rebrand it for China, but there you have it. Other than the name change, the device also comes with a slightly different main camera setup, and some other differences compared to the Indian variant.
Let’s talk about what’s different first, shall we. The Redmi Note 5 AI Dual Camera two camera on the back, 12 and 5-megapixel snappers. The phone’s main, 12-megapixel camera, features f/1.9 aperture, compared to f/2.2 on the Indian Redmi Note 5 Pro. The phone’s secondary rear-facing snapper sports 1.12um pixel size and an f/2.0 aperture. The phone’s front-facing camera is also different compared to the Redmi Note 5 Pro’s, the Redmi Note 5 AI Dual Camera comes with a 13-megapixel front-facing snapper. This new handset features a Dual PD dual-core speed focus for fast and accurate focus, which was not featured in the Indian model. The Redmi Note 5 AI Dual Camera comes with Android 8.1 Oreo with Treble support, a USB Type-C port, and Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging, while the Redmi Note 5 Pro sports a micro USB port and Quick Charge 2.0. On top of everything, the Redmi Note 5 AI Dual Camera has support for Dual 4G VoLTE for both of its SIM cards, and that also was not included in the Redmi Note 5 Pro.
So, as you can see, there are some differences between the two phones, but they are still fueled by the same SoC, they sport the same design, RAM and storage counts, and so on. The Redmi Note 5 AI Dual Camera features a 5.99-inch fullHD+ (2160 x 1080) display, 3GB / 4GB and 32GB / 64GB of expandable storage. The 3GB RAM variant of the phone comes with 32GB of expandable storage, while the 4GB and 6GB RAM variants both sport 64GB of expandable storage. A 4,000mAh non-removable battery is also included in this handset, the Snapdragon 636 SoC fuels the phone, while the device measures 158.6 x 75.4 x 8.05mm, and weighs 181 grams. The Redmi Note 5 AI Dual Camera comes in Black, Blue, Gold, and Rose Gold color options, and its 3GB RAM variant is priced at 1,099 Yuan in China. 4GB and 6GB RAM variants of the device cost 1,399 Yuan and 1,699 Yuan in the country, respectively. The device will go on sale in China on March 20.
UPDATE: It seems like the phone's name is not 'Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 AI Dual Camera', but simply 'Redmi Note 5', which is quite odd considering it's much more similar to the Redmi Note 5 Pro.
