Vibes Modular has now announced a new modular smartphone case dubbed the ROXON Modular Smartphone System via Indiegogo and its official website. Unlike many funding campaigns, however, some of the products in the ROXON system are already mostly ready to go. Although orders made through Indiegogo won't begin shipping until later this year, faster shipments for some of the items can be found via the official site - via the button below. It appears as though Vibes is using the campaign as a storefront and to build funds for more accessories in development. The whole system starts with BASEROX, which is a protective phone case with a modular add-on function that costs $24.99. It's built to be slim so that it doesn't add unnecessary bulk to a device and features bumpers to protect the screen. On the Android side of things, the case only fits Samsung's Galaxy S7 Edge, Galaxy S8, or Galaxy S8 Plus. The company is working to create more for other devices through its campaign but there's no word on when those will be ready. Current add-on accessories for the modular setup include a Bluetooth speaker called VIBROX, the VOLTROX power bank, and a VIBROX mount adapter called STICKYMOUNT.
VIBROX is a $115 high-end Bluetooth 4.0 speaker with a 2-way waterproof microphone and IPX7 ruggedization rating. It features an equalizer for both indoor and outdoor use. Perhaps best of all, it can connect to the above-mentioned BASEROX case or can be placed on a table thanks to its kickstand. Playback and volume can be controlled both on-device with physical buttons or via the connected smartphone. Between charges, the speaker's rechargeable battery has a claimed playback time of around ten to twelve hours and 120 hours of standby time. VIBROX ships in April when ordered through the official site. Looking past tabletop use or as an alternative to built-in smartphone speakers, it can also be used as a standalone Bluetooth speaker with Vibes Modular's $20 STICKYMOUNT. The mount allows versatile placement of VIBROX through either screw mounting or sticky tape mounting and VIBROX snaps in and out of the mount just as it does with the BASEROX phone case.
Last but not least, VOLTROX is a wireless or wired charger that easily snaps into BASEROX. It costs around $50 and is rated at 3,000mAh. The cable for wired charging is detachable and interchangeable, and the system ships with micro USB, lightning cable, and USB Type-C in the box. It's worth noting that there are actually discounts available for the various parts of the system when purchased via the Indiegogo campaign but that shipping varies greatly from there. Meanwhile, the VOLTROX power bank is actually available in a larger, 6,000mAh size from the campaign site as well. Beyond that, the tech company is working on at least four other add-on accessories for BASEROX. Those include a drone-style selfie-taking accessory, a mount for bicycles, a solid state hard drive for storage expansion, and a snap-in projector.
