The high-end Sony Xperia XZ2 made its debut at Mobile World Congress 2018 and was deserving of a Best of MWC award thanks to its top-tier specs and new Ambient Flow design. The smartphone is slated to go on sale in stores soon, and it has already gone up for pre-orders in Europe. In the UK, carrier Three is taking pre-orders for the Xperia XZ2 as of today and has some freebies to sweeten the deal. Starting now until Thursday, April 5, or while stocks last, interested customers who pre-order the Xperia XZ2 from Three UK will get a free PlayStation 4 with Gran Turismo Sport, or the PlayStation VR Starter Pack, depending on their preferences. Otherwise, the smartphone will become available in Three stores on April 6, but the promotional freebies won’t be attached to regular purchases.
For those unfamiliar with the handset, the Sony Xperia XZ2 features a sleek metal-and-glass construction and a 5.7-inch fullHD+ display with a resolution of 2,160 x 1,080 pixels, an 18:9 aspect ratio, and HDR support. Under the hood, the smartphone is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 octa-core processor, paired with 4GB of RAM. The Xperia XZ2 further features 64GB of internal storage expandable up to 400GB via a microSD card, a hybrid dual SIM setup, IP68 certification for water and dust resistance, and a 3,180mAh battery. In the camera department, the Xperia XZ2 offers a 19-megapixel Motion Eye rear camera with 4K HDR video recording capabilities and FHD 960FPS super slow-motion, as well as a 5-megapixel front sensor. The smartphone also has a rear-facing fingerprint scanner, front-facing stereo speakers, USB Type-C 3.1, Bluetooth 5.0, Cat. 18 LTE, and NFC support.
Three UK will be offering the Sony Xperia XZ2 in two color options – silver and blue. In terms of pricing, the smartphone is available for £79 upfront and £46 per month with a plan that includes 4GB of data, or £79 upfront and £54 per month for a larger data bucket with 30GB. Both options are on the carrier’s Advanced Plan, which also includes unlimited talk and texts. The handset is also expected to start retailing in other countries early this spring.
