Essential PH-1 Now Costs $499 (Or $20.84/Month) From Sprint

The Essential PH-1 can now be purchased at a full price of $499 from Sprint with a complete ownership of the device. Sprint has also altered its Flex lease plan for the phone to $20.84 per month with no down payment for qualifying customers. With this 18-month lease plan, the customers will have an option to either upgrade to a new device after 12 months or buy the device when the lease ends by paying the difference between the full price of the phone and the amount already paid. In November last year, Sprint made the Essential Phone available at just $5 per month on a Sprint Flex lease with a down payment of $25. At that time, the handset retailed for $699 and has since received significant price cuts as a result of poor sales.

Essential was recently reported to have sold less than 88,000 units of the PH-1 in the first six months of its availability. Launched in August at a price of $699, the device was initially marred by some major issues forcing the company to cut its price by over $200. The unlocked Essential Phone reached its all-time low price in January when it retailed for $435 on Amazon. Even now, it can be grabbed for $449.99 from Amazon in three color options – Black Moon, Pure White, and Halo Gray. The startup promoted by Android co-creator Andy Rubin initially planned to market the phone in quite a few color variants but the ones other than black and white got delayed due to supply constraints. The Halo Gray color for the PH-1 was announced in February this year with support for Amazon Alexa. It is available exclusively on Amazon and not even from its sole wireless carrier Sprint.

With its titanium frame and ceramic back, the phone for sure offers a premium build, adding to it is the near bezel-less 5.71-inch display offering a pixel density of 504ppi at a resolution of 2560 x 1312. It is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 processor and Adreno 540 GPU that come coupled with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of onboard storage. The Essential PH-1 features dual 13-megapixel camera sensors and a fingerprint scanner on its back while it has a 3,040mAh battery.
