Baldur's Gate: Siege of Dragonspear is set to hit Android devices this week, with the massive expansion being planned for a release on Thursday, March 8. Developer-publisher Beamdog confirmed the launch date on Twitter, promising to add approximately 30 hours of playing time to the main Baldur's Gate campaign. The expansion pack was originally released for the Windows, macOS, and Linux versions of Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition in early 2016, with the campaign being set to celebrate its second anniversary later this month. Beamdog hasn't disclosed the price of the expansion on Android devices, though its previous practices suggest mobile gamers can expect a $9.99 price tag, which is also how much the main game costs.
The 2014 revision of the 1998 cult classic already includes the Baldur's Gate: Tales of the Sword Coast expansion, in addition to boasting new characters, quests, and other content. The overall performance of the game has also been improved, with loading times now being shorter, multiplayer being more seamless, and the resolution being significantly higher. Beamdog reworked the user interface of the original role-playing game to make it more suitable for touchscreen-equipped smartphones and tablets. The Siege of Dragonspear expansion adds an entirely new area to the game, coupled with four extra playable characters, dozens of new items, and the Shaman class. Much like the main game, Baldur's Gate: Siege of Dragonspear supports cross-platform multiplayer.
With a base price of $9.99, the Android and iOS ports of Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition are twice as affordable as any other version of the game. The upcoming expansion will be launched in the form of a single in-app purchase, Beamdog previously confirmed. While CRPGs have recently been enjoying a resurgence with the advent of crowdfunding platforms, the original Baldur's Gate remains one of the most seminal such creations in the history of the industry and an easy recommendation for any fans of the genre. The base game can be purchased by referring to the Google Play Store banner below and is compatible with most devices running Android 3.0 Honeycomb and later versions of the mobile operating system.
