Samsung's big Unpacked event is happening today in Barcelona, just before Mobile World Congress officially opens its doors tomorrow. The event will kick off at 6PM CET, for those in the US, that's 12PM EST and 9AM PST. This is one of the most anticipated mobile industry happenings of the year, though that is something that is said every year when talking about Samsung's next flagship smartphone(s), and that's no different this year with the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus.
The two devices have already starred in numerous leaks, leading up to the big announcement today in Barcelona, showing basically everything about the two smartphones. However, while there was a lot shown off in leaks and rumors in recent weeks, there is still a ton that we do not yet know about either of these smartphones. Though we do know that the Galaxy S9 will be the smaller model with 4GB of RAM and one rear camera, versus the Galaxy S9 Plus being larger, coming with 6GB of RAM and a dual-camera setup on the backside. Of course, there are likely more differences as well, which will all be known once Samsung's DJ Koh shows it off on-stage as usual.
The new lineup from Samsung will be pretty expensive though, with the Galaxy S9 reportedly going for $750 and the Galaxy S9 Plus going for $850, that's just a bit more than last year's Galaxy S8 lineup. Of course, these are prices that we were given from a source of ours just last week, about the AT&T variant. So it's possible that the prices are closer to $700 and $800 respectively, as AT&T's full retail prices are typically a bit more expensive than elsewhere. The two devices are bound to be the most popular products at Mobile World Congress this coming week, once the show opens on Monday. This is typically the case, seeing as Samsung is the largest smartphone maker in attendance – since Apple never attends any trade shows. Unpacked kicks off at 6PM CET and should last around an hour or so. It is possible that Samsung could have some other goodies in store for its customers at this event, but the main event is definitely the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus.
