In-Display Fingerprint Sensor Shown Passing The Scratch Test

The in-display fingerprint sensor on the Vivo X20 Plus UD has now been shown to have survived a scratch test attesting to its durability under stress. These results come courtesy of the latest smartphone durability test by JerryRigEverything, and while it is usually the smartphone that is primarily under the microscope in these tests, this smartphone is a little different to the rest. As not only does the Vivo X20 Plus UD come equipped with an in-display fingerprint sensor, but is actually the only phone currently on the market to feature the new biometric technology, known as Clear ID.

While in-display fingerprint sensors are expected to make quite the impression in 2018, with this being a new technology, and one which is arguably wholly dependent on the durability of the display in the first place - which also happens to be one of the most sensitive hardware elements on a smartphone - it stands to reason the identification feature would take center stage in this latest survival test. In general, however, the in-display fingerprint sensor seems to have held up well, as after being scratched numerous times on the display and right above where the sensor is located, the reader continued to work as expected with no noticeable downgrade in performance or issues. JerryRigEverything did further attempt to shatter the display to see if the sensor still worked under these worsening conditions, although in shattering the display, the display itself stopped working altogether. Leaving the results of that particular test as inconclusive for now.

As for the actual Vivo X20 Plus UD, this also proved to be durable enough when the wider tests were taken into consideration. With the display and body generally holding up well to the scratches it took on, and the display seemingly capable of dealing with direct burning without too much of an issue. Likewise, while the YouTube noted a little give, the Vivo X20 Plus UD was able to survive the infamous bend test without breaking under the pressure.
