eSTREAM 4K Supports H.265 And VP9, Boasts HDMI 2.0

Evolution Digital has recently announced its latest all-IP streaming product, dubbed as the eSTREAM 4K. This device is capable of streaming 4K content, and it supports a variety of video formats, including H.264, HEVC/H.265, MPEG-2, and VP9. In order to support the increased data bandwidth required for 4K video streaming, the device includes a Broadcom Wireless client that supports the 802.11ac Wi-Fi standard and it includes a 4x4 antenna configuration, a hardware feature that allows the device to receive and transmit multiple data streams at the same time. Furthermore, the streaming box supports Bluetooth pairing, and users may navigate through the streaming box's user interface using voice commands.

The eSTREAM 4K is powered by Android TV, allowing the owners of the device to access the streaming apps that can be downloaded from the Google Play Store as well as the Video-on-Demand services and linear cable channels. More specifically, the streaming box is powered by Android 8.0 Oreo, which includes features like Channels, "Other Apps," and Favorites. During CES 2018, a business development manager for Google Play explained that the Channels feature aims to make it easy for consumers to see interesting content from the channels, or apps, that they commonly use. The "Other Apps" feature also comes with Android 8.0 Oreo. This feature reduces the number of applications that users see on the home screen, although users will still be able to access the rest of their applications by long-pressing a button on their Android TV boxes or on their remote controls. The Favorites feature has also been improved with Android 8.0 Oreo since all apps that are installed on the device are now compatible with the feature.

The eSTREAM 4K is powered by a quad-core ARM CPU and it is available in variants that contain either 1GB or 2GB of RAM. Users may choose among models that include 256MB, 8GB, or 16GB internal flash storage options. In the front panel, the device includes an IR receiver, a standby indicator, and a Wi-Fi strength indicator while the rear panel of the streaming box contains video and audio outputs like HDMI 2.0, 3.5mm jack for audio, and optical digital audio. Other connectivity features of the eSTREAM 4K include the RJ45 Base-T Ethernet, USB 3.0 Type A, and a Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) button.
