Confirmed: Ocean Depths Essential PH-1 Coming On February 15

The smartphone manufacturer Essential has teased the 'Ocean Depths' color option for the Essential PH-1 on its Twitter account, along with anncouncing that it will be released on February 15. The device maker showed an image of the rear fingerprint scanner of the upcoming model, which is surrounded by a gold accent. The company's official website also shows that the same color accent can be seen on the sides of the smartphone as well as the device's POGO pins, which is where accessories attach to the smartphone. The color of the device's rear panel, on the other hand, changes based on how the light is reflected by the panel.

At this point, the Essential PH-1 is available in two color options, namely the Black Moon and the Pure White. The Pure White model started shipping in October 2017 while the black color option has been available since the smartphone was launched by the device maker. It is interesting to note that in November last year, the employees of the manufacturer mentioned during a Reddit AMA that it will first release the Stellar Gray variant before the Ocean Depths variant, although the former color option is still listed as coming soon on the website of the device maker. It is expected that the Ocean Depths variant of the Essential PH-1 will ship with a price tag of under $500.

Aside from the differences in color, the Ocean Depths variant of the Essential PH-1 will sport the same hardware seen in other models of the smartphone. The handset will be powered by the Snapdragon 835 chipset, which includes  the Adreno 540 GPU for graphics processing. The device contains 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal flash storage, and it sports a 5.71-inch display with a resolution of 2560 by 1312 pixels and an aspect ratio of 19:10. The display is protected from scratches by a sheet of Corning Gorilla Glass 5.  The dual rear cameras of the handset are equipped with one 13-megapixel RGB sensor and one 13-megapixel monochrome snapper, while the front-facing selfie shooter is equipped with an 8-megapixel sensor. To keep the lights on, the Essential PH-1 includes a 3,040mAh battery, which is not removable.
