Cat phones has just announced a new smartphone, the Cat S61. This is the company’s new flagship smartphone, even though it comes with mid-range specifications As most of you are probably able to notice based on the device’s name along, this is a rugged smartphone, and a direct successor to the Cat S60 handset which was announced a while back. The company notes that the Cat S61 is an upgrade over the S60, as it sports an enhanced FLIR thermal imaging capability, laser-assisted distance measuring, and an indoor air quality sensor.
This smartphone’s FLIR thermal imaging camera with enhanced software offers better image contrast, expanded temperature range (to 400 degrees Celsius), and an upgrade from VGA to high-definition detail. The Cat S61 also comes with an indoor air quality sensor from Sensirion, which will alert you if the air around you has high levels of air pollutants (Volatile Organic Compounds or VOCs). This smartphone sport laser-assisted distance measurement which can measure point-to-point distances up to 10m, says the company, and also calculate area, and switch between Metric and Imperial measurement. This smartphone is also MIL-810G certified, it’s built to survive repeated drop-tests onto concrete from 1.8 meters. The device itself is made out of aluminum-reinforced die-cast frame, and it comes with IP68 certification for water and dust resistance.
The Cat S61 features a 5.2-inch fullHD (1920 x 1080) display, while it comes with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of expandable native storage. The device is fueled by the Snapdragon 630 64-bit octa-core processor, while it sports a 4,500mAh non-removable battery on the inside (Quick Charge 4.0 compatible). A 16-megapixel snapper is included on the back of the Cat S61, while an 8-megapixel camera is available on the phone’s front side. Bluetooth 5.0 is included here as well, and so is 4G LTE Cat. 13 with VoLTE. Android Oreo comes pre-installed on the device, while the company did mention that it will be updated to a new version of Android in the future. The Cat S61 will become available in Q2 2018, and it will be priced at £799 / €899 / $499 in the UK, Europe, and the US, respectively.
