DJI's Osmo Mobile 2 comes in at less than half the price of the original, with a better experience.
DJI is perhaps more well-known for its drones, like the Phantom 4, the Mavic Pro and others. But it also makes a few smartphone gimbals, and the more popular range is the Osmo Mobile lineup. At CES 2018 last week, the company announced the Osmo Mobile 2. The Osmo Mobile 2 is a lightweight gimbal for smartphones. Some might think of it as a better selfie stick, but it's really good for shooting video with your smartphone, as the gimbal will keep the smartphone steady, allowing you to get some really smooth shots with the device.
Gimbals for smartphones really aren't anything new, they've been around for quite a few years already. But what makes this one here from DJI impressive is that it works in both portrait and landscape mode, and doesn't cost an arm and a leg. The Osmo Mobile 2 will launch for $129 in the next few months. Which is a pretty high price tag for a product that is being used with your smartphone, but when you hold it in your hand and see how impressive it really is, you'll quickly realize why it is $129, and see that it's worth the money. The Osmo Mobile 2 is made of metal, so it feels really solid in the hand. There are a couple of controls on the DJI Osmo Mobile 2, which includes a record button, a shutter button, and one to switch orientation. That way you don't even need to touch the phone to start recording or taking pictures. Otherwise, the Osmo Mobile 2 is really simple to use, and lasts for up to 15 hours of usage. There is a battery indicator right above the three buttons, which indicate how much time is left on the Osmo Mobile 2.
Those who already use their smartphone as their main camera, will really be interested in picking up the Osmo Mobile 2. It'll allow users to take their photography and videography game to the next level. The Osmo Mobile 2 is available in two colors, a silver and a gray model. Which both look really good, especially since it is made of aluminum. It'll work with both Android or iOS devices, seeing as their's no physical connection here, the Osmo Mobile 2 only connects to your smartphone over Bluetooth, which is something basically every smartphone has these days.
There were a ton of smartphone accessories shown off at CES 2018 last week, but the DJI Osmo Mobile 2 was the one that won the award this year, since it is something more impressive than a case, or a wireless charger. And it's something that you can pick up this year and use it for many years to come, with many different smartphones. It is also going to help you drop that DSLR or point and shoot camera and use your smartphone for everything. Not to mention it is also really compact and can fit easily into your bag when you are traveling. Which is why the DJI Osmo Mobile 2 has won our best smartphone accessory award for Best of CES 2018 this year.
