A new Nokia camera update suggests that the Nokia 9 is coming. The Nokia 5 received an Android 8.0 Oreo beta update quite recently, and it arrived with a new camera app. This new camera app comes with a simplified UI, and it actually hides some details that were spotted after further examination of the application by the source and ‘Suomimobiili’. Now, some files inside of the APK package actually show us that the current version of the Nokia Camera (8.0200.20) supports the telephoto camera mode with 2X optical zoom, and it also comes with a wide-angle mode as well.
Why is that so interesting? Well, out of all the Nokia-branded Android smartphones only the Nokia 8 arrives with a dual camera setup, and it sports RGB and monochrome lenses on the back, not a telephoto lens. So, we’re wondering why is the telephoto option available within the camera app, is the APK suggesting that the Nokia 9 is on the way? Well, it’s quite possible, actually. The Nokia 9 had been rumored a number of times in the past, and that device is expected to modernize the design of Nokia’s smartphones, while it will ship with top-of-the-line specifications similar to the Nokia 8. In any case, in addition to the telephoto options, the icons for shutter speed (1/500-1s) and ISO (100-2000) appeared. Now, it’s important that you keep in mind that you won’t be able to access any of these features even if you have the right version of the camera app, as some of these features are not finished, and some are limited, but it seems like the company is preparing its camera app for an upcoming device(s), which suggests that the Nokia 9 is on the way, and that the phone could ship with a dual camera setup on the back, but instead of the monochrome lens it may sport a telephoto one.
As already mentioned, the Nokia 9 surfaced quite a few times thus far in one way or the other, and the phone is rumored to arrive in January next year. The device will, allegedly, be announced in China first, and it will arrive to other parts of the world later on. It is actually possible that the device may launch in China in January, and then on a global scale during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, but we’ll see what will happen.
